Each year the San Buenaventura Friends of the Library raises money to support Ventura City’s libraries. We fund the Summer Reading Program, supplement the book budget, and advocate for the libraries among other activities.
This year we have taken on the challenging task of raising operating money to keep all of our Ventura libraries open, particularly the threatened H. P. Wright Library. To date we have raised over $75,000 thanks to your generosity. Our goal is $280,000 by March 2010.
Upcoming fundraising efforts include:
- An afternoon with author Ray Bradbury at the Ventura College Theatre Saturday, June 20.
- On Thursday, June 25, an evening of music and a silent auction of items donated by local artists and others will be held at City Hall.
- In July, Councilman Ed Summers will compete in the Oxnard Salsa Festival Dance Contest to benefit Save Wright Library.
- Additional fundraisers, including further Author Events, begin in September.
